Wooden Candle Holder

Our Intro

To create a wooden candle holder, we began by gluing a piece of pine wood and oak wood together, combining their unique tones. Once the glue dried, we cut out the desired profile, shaping the holder to our design. We then carefully sanded the edges to achieve a smooth, refined finish. Finally, we applied a protective oil to enhance the wood's natural beauty and provide durability.

Sketching Ideas

Before crafting the candle holder, we sketched several design ideas for its profile. We experimented with different shapes and curves, considering both aesthetics and functionality. By refining our sketches, we ensured a balanced and visually appealing form. Once we settled on a final design, we used it as a guide for cutting the wood.

Gluing The Wood

To create a strong bond between the oak and pine pieces, we first ensured both surfaces were smooth and free of dust. We then applied a high-quality wood glue evenly across the joining surfaces and pressed the pieces together. To maintain a secure hold, we clamped the wood firmly and allowed the glue to dry completely. This created a durable connection, combining the contrasting tones of oak and pine into a single, sturdy piece.

Cutting The Wood

After finalizing the design, we marked the profile of the candle holder onto the wood with a pencil. Using a bandsaw, we carefully followed the lines, making precise cuts to shape the piece. We took our time, guiding the wood steadily to ensure clean, accurate edges.

Sanding The Wood

After the gluing and cutting were complete, we thoroughly sanded the entire piece to achieve a smooth finish. We began with a coarse grit to eliminate any rough spots or residual glue, gradually progressing to finer grits for a polished surface. This meticulous sanding process not only enhanced the wood's natural appeal but also ensured it was perfectly prepared for the final protective coating. We used Danish Oil to protect and enhance the wood, enriching the tone and providing protection from everyday wear and tear.
