Novel Coffee Cup Design

Our Intro
We came up with the idea of storing snacks in a standard coffee cup as a way to make on-the-go snacking more convenient. Through brainstorming and sketching, we explored different ways to divide the space efficiently while keeping the design simple and practical. We then moved to 3D printing prototypes to test our concepts in a tangible form. To better represent the final product, we created a paper version, allowing us to refine its structure, functionality, and manufacturability before moving toward production.
Sketching Ideas
Sketching ideas was an essential part of the process, allowing us to quickly visualize different concepts for snack storage in a coffee cup. We experimented with various designs, such as dividers, stackable layers, and collapsible sections, to find the most practical solution. Each sketch helped us identify potential challenges and refine the functionality of the design, laying a solid foundation for the next steps in prototyping.
CAD Design
Once we had settled on the drawer concept, we moved to designing the cups in CAD to refine the details and ensure precision. We developed two versions: the first prioritizes snack volume, placing the drawer near the top to maximize space for snacks while still allowing for liquid storage. The second version places the drawer at the bottom, simplifying the design and prioritizing liquid capacity. Both versions were carefully crafted to balance functionality, ease of use, and space efficiency.

3D Printing Prototypes
After finalizing our CAD designs, we moved on to 3D printing prototypes to bring our ideas to life. This step allowed us to test the physical form and functionality of both versions, checking the fit of the drawer mechanisms and ensuring that the designs worked as intended. The prototypes provided valuable insights into the usability of the designs, helping us identify any necessary adjustments before moving forward. This hands-on approach was crucial for refining the design and ensuring it met our expectations.
